Baby Showers

It's a celebration of one of the greatest miracles in this world – the miracle of life. A baby shower is a time to circle around the new Mom and let her know just how much she is loved. It's a time to share in her joy and excitement, her passion and her qualms (if any!). It's a time to "shower" the Mom-to-be and let her know that she is cherished just as much as her new little one will be.

Conventional wisdom tells us a baby shower is intended to help the parents get items that they need for their baby, including clothes, supplies, bedding, nursery décor, and the occasional stroller or playpen. But baby showers are also held to offer loving support of the new Mother, to celebrate the impending arrival, and to have a little fun in the process.

Baby Shower Themes

• Although it's not necessary to host a themed baby shower, it certainly is fun! Baby shower themes generally encompass gender specificities, cartoons, children's books or lullabies or anything else baby you can possibly think of. People also create baby showers around certain colors ("playfully pink" or "babies in blue") and nursery animals (ducks, bears, etc).

  Some common baby shower themes are:

  • Angels from Heaven

  • Sweet Dreams (Goodnight Moon or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)

  • Noah's Ark

  • Old McDonald Farm Animals

  • Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes

  • Princess or Prince

  If you do decide to go with a baby shower theme, it's a good idea to plan the baby shower favors around the chosen theme, as well as the baby shower cake (if you plan to have one – which you should because everyone likes cake!)

Baby Shower Favors

• One of the most fun things to plan for the baby shower is the favors, little tokens you give to the guests. Baby shower favors are a great way to show your love and gratitude to them. This is your chance to get creative and make the event truly personal for each guest. Some popular baby shower favor ideas include:

  • Scented candle sets: buy whimsical ones in pastel colors and matted glass containers. Decorate with ribbons or satin bows.

  • Small bags of candy: try pink, blue and yellow colored Jelly Bellys, M&M's, etc.

  • Bath soap sets. Buy shaped soaps (think stars or hearts) in baby blues, light yellow, pink or créme. Arrange the soaps (and or other small bath products) in tins or baskets.

  • Tea, coffee and hot chocolate sets.

  • Personalized tins of mints.

  If you are looking to spend a little more on the baby shower favors, other options include crystal figurines, beaded keychains or bracelets, and personalized glassware.
