Wrapping up Summer…

August 17 By American Greetings

Summer Fun

It feels like we were just talking about getting your summer started, and now it’s already almost time to say goodbye to the care-free warm days of this fun season. Although schools will be starting up again soon, and we’ll all be back to busier schedules, there’s still  time left to enjoy summer. If you’re wondering when the official end of summer is – it falls on September 21, so make the most of the next 5 weeks with some end-of-summer fun! Here are some of our favorite ideas you still have time to fit it.

Capture Summer Memories

If you’ve been snapping pictures all summer long, now is the time to organize all of your memories and create something fun. Take a day to put all your photos together in a scrapbook – digital or paper. You can even make your favorite summer pictures into personalized cards and send them out to friends and family!

Last-Minute Vacation

It’s not too late to squeeze one more fun vacation weekend in! How about a family camping trip, or an adventure to your local amusement park? You may even save some money if you plan these trips into September, and as a bonus you may not have the crowds you’d find a few weeks earlier.

Get to the Pool

The weather is still hot and sunny, so soak up the sun at your local pool or water park. Most pools stay open until Labor Day weekend, so make the most of the time you have left!

Have a Movie Marathon

Stuck inside due to a late summer storm? No problem! Have a family movie marathon day. Have each member of the family choose a favorite movie, pop some popcorn, make fun snacks, and enjoy a lazy day!

Birthday Party Ideas for Kids

July 30 By American Greetings

Kids birthday party theme ideas

Make your child or grandchild feel super-special when you throw a themed birthday party based on their favorite interest, character, or hobby. From princesses and gymnastics, to Star Wars and soccer, your child’s interests make party planning easy. Begin by sending out invitations to let their friends know what the excitement is all about. Then start planning!

Games

  • Games are an important part of kids’ parties, and with a little creativity, you can turn a traditional game into something exciting. For example, Musical Chairs can easily become Musical Thrones for a Princess Party, and Who Am I? is great for themes with a lot of characters, such as Star Wars or Thomas the Train.

Decor

  • Create your own decorations to make the party unique. Check out sites like Pinterest for one-of-a-kind ideas, or visit character websites, where many offer printables that can be used for decorations or as an activity.

Sweets

  • There’s no need to go to a bakery when you can make a cool theme cake yourself—you’ll be amazed at what you can create! Or try something different – cake balls and cupcakes are super trendy right now. Give it your best shot and see what fun desserts you can come up with.

Don’t forget a card! Personalized birthday cards for kids are a great idea, and if you’re running a little late and don’t have time to get to the store there’s always great printable birthday cards your kids can create right from home. Most importantly, include your child in the party planning. It will make the day even more special for the birthday guest of honor!

You’ve got a friend…

Friendship moodboard with nostalgic photos of a child with a pet, some dogs, and nesting dolls

Henry David Thoreau once said, “The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend.” Friends are so important to us – they help us through hard times, laugh with us during better times, and let us be ourselves all the time. Whether you live next door to your best friend, or across the country, it’s easier than ever to stay connected. American Greetings makes it simple with fun postcards and friendship ecards, or take a few minutes and send a personalized friendship greeting card!
